About Customised Aids & Equipment
How do you access our services?
People needing our assistance can approach us themselves or be referred by others, for example their carers, health professionals or simply concerned citizens.
The only eligibility qualification to call on our services is that you need our assistance due to aging or have a disability or are a carer. Our client base therefore ranges from the very young to the elderly.
What is involved in receiving a CAE service?
When you contact CAE, a staff member will collect the relevant information from you, or the people supporting you, to define clearly your difficulty and needs. The first step will be to establish whether or not an appropriate solution is already available commercially.
The CAE team member will initiate the project process which normally includes a home visit along with your health professional, carer or advocate. The CAE team member will then consult with the CAE Manager to determine what skills, technical expertise and materials are required to develop the solution. We may use a mix of professional staff, trades contractors and the skills of volunteers to complete a project. The CAE Manager in conjunction with other CAE staff will prepare an indicative estimate of cost.
Our CAE staff and volunteers pride themselves on being mindful of the need for usability, strength, safety and professional finish in products. One objective when modifying an existing item of equipment is to ensure that the product can be restored substantially to its original condition. Usually CAE staff or volunteers will deliver the product, install it if appropriate, and assist you to learn how to use it, observe it in operation, and make adjustments or refinements if necessary. We strive to create a solution to maximize your satisfaction.
