Freedom Wheels bikes & trikes
Riding is a fun, low-impact way to get outdoors and stay active. Regular bike rides help to maintain good physical wellbeing and mental health, and be loads of fun. A bike can also assist with your mobility and be an opportunity for socialisation with your family and friends.
Our Occupational Therapists and technicians can complete an assessment with you to ensure that you receive a bike that is suited to your age, height, weight, physical and cognitive abilities. Prescription of specific equipment required for safe bike riding will be considered. Freedom Wheels offers a wide range of customised supports that can be adjusted or removed as you become more confident or your child grows.
Family members, carers and other allied health therapists can provide valuable input into how the bike will be used at home, school or community. Consideration will also be provided as to what trial or training in Freedom Wheels products is required so that your skill development and level of independence increases.
“Words cannot describe the joy we have had in receiving Jayden’s bike. This is an awesome piece of machinery and the guys and girls at TADWA have done an amazing job. Jayden is now able to join our family in walks in something other than his wheelchair, in something that is not only fun for him but is also beneficial to him. By this I mean, we can do physio on his legs without him thinking it is hard work. Hopefully his little chicken legs will soon be building lots of muscle and this will help his everyday living, being able to help with standing transfers etc. I would like to give PoCA [who funded the bike] my heartfelt thanks. Without their generosity Jayden may never have received such an extraordinary gift … Once again, THANK YOU.”Colleen
The Beach Trekker is a unique beach wheelchair designed to travel across all terrains, from hard surfaces to soft sand and into the water. People with disabilities require a carer to propel them safely across the beach whilst seated in the wheelchair. There are adjustable components built into the Beach Trekker to enable the person to be seated comfortably and allow for safe transferring.
The Beach Trekker is available for hire, find out where you can access your nearest Beach Trekker here.
TADWA is able to assess, prescribe, construct and fit suitable swing equipment that can be tailored for personal use in your own backyard, school or community.
All Freedom Swings are customised to the individual, the family and the environment. We also consider the seating requirements and provide information about using the swing safely.
